Local Economic Development

Local Economic Development is part of a balanced strategy for economic development in Central Fife. Many people experience severe difficulties in gaining employment as they tend to be beyond the reach of the “trickle down” of traditional economics development solutions.
Local Economic Development aims to tackle inequalities within the labour market, particularly in terms of variations in unemployment rates among residents in Fife, by working at a local level to improve access to employment. It results in the creation and distribution of opportunities and encourages local action to link with the wider economy.
The principles underpinning the work of Local Economic Development include community consultation and empowerment, individual and group capacity building and an understanding of the needs of the client group. In order to maximise economic opportunities, staff provide a “catalyst” role at local level, forming partnerships with local people, other agencies and services of Fife Council.
The Local Economic Development function would assist local communities in Central Fife develop their own economies. This would include: providing a support function to existing communities access existing Local Economic Development funds.
